7 Mindful Activities To Do While on Social Media Detox

Whether you are scrolling Facebook, posting on Instagram, or tweeting on Twitter—social media has become a huge part of many people’s daily lives. And while most people love to use social media and find it entertaining, some have trouble controlling the urge to check their screens compulsively. Let’s explore mindful activities to help keep your sanity and renew your concentration before, during, and after social media detox.

1. Meditation Is Key

There are plenty of ways to meditate, but self-guided meditation is a good place to start. There are plenty of apps available online that offer guided meditation sessions and even courses. You could also pick up an actual book on meditation to read or listen to while doing it. With guided meditation, the audio will guide you to meditate on specific topics that will help you relax and stay focused. There’s something magical about meditation, and if you give it a chance, you might just be surprised at the results.

2. Join a Group and Meet With Others in Real Life

If you want to feel less like you’re living in a social media bubble, why not join a local group? Joining a local group or participating in community activities is one of the best ways to break out of your virtual shell and make new connections. In addition to that, joining a group has other benefits. Groups can provide you with support, socialization, and even a place to go for fun activities. Joining a group will also help you feel less isolated and overwhelmed by your thoughts.

3. Listen to a Ted Talk

You can always find a great TED talk to listen to or watch on your computer or mobile device. There are great speakers who spend hours researching and sharing their knowledge. Take your time to listen to them without any distractions, and they can inspire you to be more than you could ever imagine. Many TED talks are educational, and by listening to them, you can gain valuable insight that will improve your life.

4. Take a Walk in Nature

A walk in the forest can give you perspective on what is important in your life. When you are walking through a beautiful forest, where everything is peaceful and quiet — it’s hard to focus on what everyone else is doing online. And this can be a great way to detox from all the noise on the internet.

5. Listen to Music

There are tons of free music sites online where you can download an unlimited amount of music. You can get the latest music that’s out there, or you can find some good oldies or even watch a song video! You won’t believe how much time you’ll spend exploring different genres, and it will help make your mind busy as opposed to a newsfeed.

6. Craft Something Creative

Crafting something creative lets those creative juices flow and can help you refocus your thoughts and attention. You can craft something creative, like painting or drawing pictures. Don’t worry about making it look professionally painted—just draw on a piece of paper or sketch out an idea for a loved one to enjoy!

7. Journal Something Creative

Journaling is a great way to express your thoughts, concerns, and feelings without having to reveal your personal information to the public. Writing in a journal about your thoughts, worries, and dreams allows you to process your feelings and get in touch with your inner self. Journaling is not only a great outlet for your emotions but can also serve as an inspirational way to recapture what you’re feeling and thinking throughout the day. It can also serve as a reminder of things to do the next day or things you want to remember.

Closing Thoughts

Social media detox can be an amazing experience that improves your life. It’s easy to get lost in social media while others are doing amazing things, and you’re just sitting in front of your smartphone or computer. It takes time and practice to learn what it means to be present and recognize what’s important in life. Step away from the internet, cell phone, and television for a few minutes each day, and you will realize how much you have been missing out.
